March Meeting: New Horizons

The March meeting will feature Certified Information System Security Profession, Nat Thompson presenting on Protecting Data at Rest with Transparent Data Encryption.  Nat will be discussing the reality of data loss incidents including recent statistics, compliance requirements and penalties, and strategies for using SQL Server to reduce risk due to compromised data. The meeting will begin as usual at 6:00pm with a thirty minute networking session with Nat's presentation to follow a 6:30pm with food and beverages provided by this month's sponsor EBSCO Industries.  If you plan on attending this month's meeting let us know by sending us an RSVP.

TechBiringham E-cycling Day 2009: Vulcan Park

TechBiringham will host E-cycling Day 2009 at the Clover Crawl in the lower parking lot of Vulcan Park from 10am to 4pm.  If you can’t repair, refurbish, or reuse your used electronic device, the next best thing is to recycle it!Electronics consist of valuable resources, such as precious metals, copper, and engineered plastics, all of which require considerable energy to process and manufacture. Recycling electronics recovers valuable materials, conserves virgin resources, and results in lower environmental emissions (including greenhouse gases) than making products from virgin materials.  So clean out your office, your attic, your garage and bring all your old electronics on March 21st to be recycled.  Join us for a good, clean day of fun after you help the environment inside Vulcan Park for the clover-crawl. 

The April meeting will feature a presentation from Evan Koch of CTS presenting on Storing Nonstructured Data in SQL 2008 with FILESTREAM.  The meeting will begin as usual at 6:00pm with a thirty minute networking session with Evan's presentation to follow a 6:30pm.  If you plan on attending this month's meeting let us know by sending us an RSVP.

SQL Saturday #7: Jeff State Shelby-Hoover Campus

SQL Saturday is a fast growing one day free training event for SQL Server professionals organized by a local user group, like Steel City SQL, and is similar to a SQL version of the Alabama Code Camp.  The Birmingham SQL Saturday will the Saturday, May 30th at the Jefferson State Community College Shelby-Hoover Campus.  Register today to reserve you spot for this all day FREE event.  Also consider becoming part of the event when registering by electing to become a volunteer.
